That the Parliament congratulates nine-year-old Aaliyah Mason, who has been shortlisted for a prize at 2017's Young Muslim Writers Awards; understands that Aaliyah reached the final five in the poetry category for youngsters aged seven to 11 for her work, The Lake; notes that the national awards recognise young literary talent in the Muslim community and that Aaliyah is the only finalist from Scotland to be invited to the awards; acknowledges that this is Aaliyah's first entry into the competition and that her poem was assessed by an internationally-renowned panel of judges, including the award-winning children’s author, Patrice Lawrence, the director of The Royal Society of Literature, Tim Robertson, and the award-winning author and comic writer, G Willow Wilson; further notes that the Young Muslim Writers Awards were initially set up in 2010 as a standalone competition for 5 to 16-year-olds and has encouraged and nurtured the writing talents of thousands of children through creative writing workshops and the annual competition, and wishes Aaliyah the very best in the next stage of the competition.
