That the Parliament congratulates Open Door Drama in Shetland on receiving the King’s Award for Voluntary Service; understands that this honour, the highest that can be given to voluntary groups, is the equivalent of an MBE and that Open Door Drama is the first voluntary organisation in Shetland to be recognised with the award; further understands that Open Door Drama has been providing opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to be involved in theatre in Shetland for the past 30 years; notes that Open Door Drama takes part in the annual Shetland County Drama Festival, as well as producing summer shows and pantomimes, with recent productions including a variety concert, the pantomime Babes in the Wood and Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream; further notes that members are encouraged to explore the aspect of theatre that interests them, from performing to working backstage, and that opportunities for children and young people are provided through the junior and youth groups, which also have summer clubs during the school holidays; believes that these opportunities can improve members’ confidence, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as foster a sense of community; considers that the award is a testament to Open Door Drama’s contribution to Shetland’s cultural life and the transformational impact of theatre, and wishes Open Door Drama well in its future theatrical endeavours.

That the Parliament congratulates the over 800 Girlguiding members who gathered in Ayr to celebrate 100 years of World Thinking Day; understands that World Thinking Day is a time to reflect on the incredible bond of sisterhood shared with over 11.2 million girls and young women in 153 countries around the world; further understands that for this special centenary year, the members from Girlguiding Ayrshire South gathered together to celebrate with the biggest lantern parade Ayrshire has ever seen, along with parents, volunteers and special guests; commends the work of Girlguiding Ayrshire South, and wishes it every success for the future.

That the Parliament congratulates Prestwick's Karin Bounford of KB Invitations, which has been crowned Best Wedding Stationer at the 2026 Confetti Awards; understands that Karin has an extensive history in the wedding industry, and that her stationery business continues to go from strength to strength, including gaining this national recognition; commends Karin on her victory, and wishes her every success for the future.

That the Parliament congratulates Helen Green, from Ayr, who has won the British Riding Club Area 1 Club Volunteer of the Year Award, in recognition of her work as the treasurer of Ayr Riding Club; understands that Helen's invaluable support to the club is unwavering, and believes that this national honour is certainly very well deserved.

That the Parliament notes the release of a short film, shot on location in Troon, for the track Wind by musical group Songraes; understands that the film stars veteran Scottish actor David Hayman, who portrays an elderly man, with the project shaped by director David Arthur's personal experiences of his own father's dementia, and further understands that the film seeks to raise awareness of and support for Spirit Aid, a Scottish humanitarian charity founded by David Hayman, which supports children and young people affected by hardship in Scotland and internationally.

That the Parliament recognises that the Scottish Apprenticeship Week will take place from 2 to 6 March 2026; acknowledges the immense contribution of apprentices across a range of sectors and their central role in driving Scotland’s economic growth and future; welcomes the commitment of businesses, such as RSE, operating in Scotland, which, it believes, create new employment opportunities, are innovative and contribute to advancing the resilient infrastructure needed for generations to come; believes that RSE is one of Scotland’s leading businesses for water technology, with manufacturing and specialist engineering facilities across the country, including in Dalgety Bay in the Mid Scotland and Fife region, offering a variety of opportunities for school leavers, as well as workers looking for a change in career; applauds that, for almost 30 years, RSE has supported 400 people through its apprenticeship programme, combining on-the-job training with formalised college learning and equipping apprentices ranging from ages 17 to 43, with the necessary skills and qualifications to have a successful career in the water industry; extends its very best wishes to apprentices training with RSE, and other businesses across Scotland, and wishes them every success as they develop the skills needed to take on new opportunities that industry depends on.

That the Parliament recognises that February 2026 marked the launch of the International Association for Premenstrual Disorders (IAPMD UK); understands that IAPMD UK is the first charity in the UK with a specific focus on advancing research into Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), which is a severe hormone-based mood condition that affects one million women and people who menstruate, with an estimated one in two self-harming and most having suicidal thoughts; acknowledges that this major milestone in the advancement of research into the life-altering condition involves academics from the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), including Dr Lynsay Matthews, who leads on PMDD research at UWS, as a trustee of the charity; believes that this new charity will advance understanding and improve care for individuals affected by PMDD through research, professional education and collaboration; notes that IAPMD UK is carrying out the UK’s first-ever research agenda into PMDD, and commends the charity’s work.

That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow Film Theatre on being named among the top 100 cinemas in the world by Time Out magazine; notes that the theatre was ranked 59th globally and has previously been recognised as one of the leading cinemas in the UK; considers that it has had the status of being the “beating heart” of Glasgow’s film scene since opening on Rose Street in 1939, serving generations of filmgoers for more than eight decades; understands the vital role that it plays in showcasing independent, international, classic and contemporary cinema, as well as supporting film festivals, education programmes and community outreach initiatives; acknowledges its significant contribution to Glasgow’s cultural identity, night-time economy and tourism sector, and commends the management, staff, volunteers and loyal audiences whose continued dedication ensures that this historic venue remains a cornerstone of Scotland’s vibrant creative and cultural life.

That the Parliament notes with sadness the closure of Ayr's Highlander Tartan Wear, which will see owner Roy McNair retire after 35 years; understands that the Kyle Street business has been a fixture of the town centre for over three decades, with an extensive history of supplying Highland wear; notes that Roy and the team have thanked their many customers for their support over the years, and wishes Roy a very happy retirement.

That the Parliament congratulates Osas Aizeyosabor Agho, a public health professional from Nigeria, on winning the 2026 Robert Burns Humanitarian Award; understands that Osas has significant experience and expertise working in conflict zones and other challenging situations, and was recognised by South Ayrshire Council and Destination South Ayrshire for his work supporting thousands of people directly impacted by war, disease and climate change; commends Osas on his continued efforts, and considers him a very worthy winner.
