GTCS Recognition for Windygoul Primary School's Leadership of Learning

  • Submitted by: Iain Gray, East Lothian, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 27 September 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-07939

That the Parliament welcomes Windygoul Primary School’s recognition by the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS) for its work in Leadership of Learning and becoming, it understands, the first primary school in Scotland to hold this recognition; further understands that the school was assessed by a panel from the GTCS after having been nominated by East Lothian Council’s education service for a GTCS Excellence in Professional Learning award; believes that the panel was given an independent guided tour by pupils, met with the headteacher, pupil groups, house captains, National Improvement Framework champions and three teaching groups, and that, subsequent to the assessment, the panel agreed that the school should be awarded an Excellence in Professional Learning award; acknowledges that the report noted several key strengths, including an "outstanding" culture of leadership and learning, strong evidence of leadership at all levels within the school, from the pupils to every staff member, an underpinning culture of care for every individual in the school, a clear focus on learning and teaching, and a deep inter-relation between teacher and student learning, with the parent and community voice being a strong feature of the school, and congratulates all of the staff, pupils and parents on this outstanding achievement.
