Sanofi’s VidPrevtyn has not been used in the Scottish Vaccination Programme since winter 2023-24, and is no longer available in the UK. The withdrawal was at the request of the marketing authorisation holder, Sanofi Pasteur, which notified the European Commission of its decision to permanently discontinue the marketing of the product for commercial reasons.

It remains Scottish Government policy that Health Boards must make non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccines available to those individuals who are contraindicated to, or allergic to, mRNA vaccines. However, trometamol is used in the manufacture of some vaccines, including the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and at present there are no non-mRNA products authorised for use in the UK by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) available for purchase. Health Boards have contacted all individuals affected to explain the situation.

National Services Scotland (NSS) National Procurement team will continue to monitor the non-mRNA market position to see if any non-mRNA options become available for future COVID-19 vaccination programmes.

The Govanhill Law Centre project was funded to enable Govanhill Law Centre to continue to provide free, holistic and confidential legal support to the residents of Govanhill to tackle discrimination, fight rogue landlords and substandard living conditions, support the people to engage and participate with the service, improve community cohesion and to assist in addressing the current imbalances in public life with particular focus on the Roma and Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) population within the community.

The specific outcomes to be achieved were:

• To improve the living conditions within the Govanhill area of Glasgow, with emphasis on the private rented sector and the treatment of the Roma and BME population, and to prevent people being made homeless.
• To improve the health and well-being of the Roma and BME population of Govanhill by maximising their income, enforcing their rights and tackling unmet legal needs
• More BME clients access our advice and legal services. To continue building on the trust we have built up within the community and to work with key services to improve the health and well-being of the people of Govanhill.

The Economic Barriers and Community Cohesion project was funded to support Grampian Regional Equality Council’s work with partners to better understand and address inequalities faced by ethnic minority groups in employment by tackling and removing specific barriers. It will work with community groups and workers to engage with ethnic minority groups in regeneration areas with the aim of improving community cohesion and access to services (particularly English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) & employability).

The specific outcomes to be achieved were:

• There are effective mechanisms to gather, analyse, disseminate and use ethnicity & employment data to influence policy & practice and improve equal representation of ethnic minorities in employment in the North East of Scotland
• There is improved community cohesion and access to services and employment in target areas (Tillydrone, Torry and Fraserburgh)

The Men in Childcare project was funded to support national media advertising of college based SQA certificated training courses, that would help encourage men to consider childcare as a career. It would support the offer of SQA level 6 qualifications to encourage better parenting and an awareness of the importance of Play and Child Development. Through HNC qualification the number of men working in Early Years settings would increase, providing a more gender balanced workplace. The project would also promote the importance of fathers’ involvement with their child from birth.

The specific outcomes to be achieved were:

• Men in Childcare will increase the number of men entering the childcare workforce, by recruiting male students to a free of charge College based SQA Certificated Training Course.
• Men in Childcare to advise a network of employers in the Early Years Sector on positive effect gender balance in the workforce
• Men in Childcare will promote awareness of the need for more Father friendly Early Years environments throughout Scotland, in keeping with the National Parenting Strategy and the principles of Getting it Rights for Every Child (GIRFEC)

The Equality Engagement project was funded to support a tailored mentoring program (the PLC scheme) and a shadowing scheme to provide support to Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) individuals to access public life and increase their engagement. All the activities would be inclusive, aimed at both BME men and women equally. Joint work would be carried out in partnership with major political parties at the grassroots level. Initiatives would be undertaken to get BME individuals involved in local democracy and community councils in West Lothian, Midlothian and East Lothian. IN addition, a pilot study would be carried out to determine the level of participation of the BME community in the Scottish Parliament’s committees/activities. That research aimed to raise awareness on current BME representation in the Scottish Parliament and encourage policy makers to work towards more positive actions towards BME representation.

The specific outcomes to be achieved were:

• Increase the engagement of the BME community into Public Life
• Increase representation of BME communities in the political process
• Increase awareness on barriers to engagement among key public agencies and organisations

The “Lessons from Srebrenica” project was funded to enable 90 delegates of influential Scots and Community leaders to be taken to Bosnia over 3 years to participate in the programme for the following purposes:

• Promote improved awareness of hate crime and intolerance by marking the Srebrenica Genocide at a number of high profile annual events
• “Lessons from Srebrenica” visits will enable delegates to Bosnia to more effectively challenge hate crime and promote increased community cohesion in Scotland Lessons
• Increase public awareness of the Srebrenica Genocide in order to promote tolerance and build better community relations in Scotland, in particular through an active Schools Engagement programme.

The “Bridge Builders: Engaging with the BSL Community” was funded to support the engagement of BSL users across Scotland by providing them with a range of opportunities to participate and contribute as equal and valued citizens in wider Scottish society. The project also supported the engagement of BSL users with public bodies (national and local), and ensured that BSL users were able to access information, support and training in the implementation of the BSL National Plan and authority plans. The intended outcomes were:

• BSL users are able to participate and contribute to national and/or local authority plans
• BSL users and public bodies are able to access information, support and training in the implementation of the BSL National Plan and authority plans
• BSL users are able to access information in their first language – British Sign Language (BSL) with improved and increased social media channels

The Living in Harmony (LiH) project was funded to support Pilton Community Health project to work with local organisations and residents to work towards its vision that ‘residents of north Edinburgh, no matter where they come from or how long they have lived here, feel safe, welcome and valued in our community and are able to access services.’

The project intended to give Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) residents more influence on how local services were delivered and be more represented in civic life by supporting them to have the skills and confidence to share their experiences and expertise with services providers at the LiH forum, and encourage them to work with other community leaders to contribute to local (particularly the small area Local Improvement Plan), city wide and national consultations

Also, organisations would gain a better knowledge and understanding of how to meet the needs of BME residents because they would be provided with opportunities for them to hear from BME residents about their experiences of accessing services and taking part in community life, and provided training and spaces where they could explore how they could improve their practice with respect to including BME residents, other local organisations, residents and expertise from further afield.

Finally, the project intended to give residents more opportunities to share culture and make friendships across cultural boundaries through providing a chat café and other activities where people could meet, eat and share culture and chat, and encourage a broad section of the local community to get involved in organising community events

The specific outcomes to be achieved were:

• People from BME backgrounds have more influence on how local services are delivered and are more represented in civic life
• Organisations working in north Edinburgh have a better knowledge and understanding of how to meet the needs of BME residents
• Residents have more opportunities to share culture and make friendships across cultural boundaries

The New Migrants Action Project was funded support work to counter the uncertainty that was facing European Economic Area (EEA) nationals living in Scotland. The project was intended to provide excellent, up-to-date, accessible and impartial advice, information and support on welfare rights, residence rights and housing and homelessness rights. Its service was intended to reach out to otherwise “easy to ignore” EEA nationals to prevent crises of poverty and homelessness as far as possible and tackle crises effectively where they arise.

The specific outcomes to be achieved were:

• EU nationals, especially Romanian Roma people, will better understand and be more able to assert their welfare rights, maintain tenancies and fulfil their responsibilities.
• EU nationals, especially Romanian Roma people, will better understand and be more able to assert their housing and homelessness rights and fulfil their responsibilities.
• EU nationals, especially Romanian Roma people, will better understand and be more able to assert their UK residency rights.

The Highland Equality and Fair Work in Action Project was funded to provide a local specialist “Equality and Employment Rights Advice and Representation Service” to empower workers in the Highlands who (due to having a protected characteristic and in particular a disability) may suffer unlawful discrimination and/or disadvantage when their rights are breached which will reduce barriers to justice; reduce discrimination and inequality; will promote early intervention; increase in ‘fair work’ practice; increase cohesion/community participation and progress social policy issues.

The specific outcome to be achieved was:

• 1600 Highland workers who (due to having a protected characteristic – mostly notably those who have a disability) suffer unlawful discrimination or related breaches of their equality/employment rights will have improved access to a local specialist advice and representation service which will advise of their individual rights and options and improve access to justice in order to reduce discrimination; reduce disadvantage; increase fair work and reduce barriers to participation.
