Commissioner Hicken and I had a constructive meeting in December last year during which we discussed Scotland’s green hydrogen priorities in Germany.

The subject of Scottish independence was not an agenda item in discussions. However, Scottish ministers will always be polite enough during international meetings to answer any questions put to them about the Scottish Government's stated policies, including a legal, constitutionally sound referendum, as set out in our Programme for Government.

Local sport and leisure facilities, including swimming pools, are vital in supporting the physical and mental health of the nation.

We understand the challenging financial circumstances of operating and maintaining leisure facilities faced by local authorities, largely due to the cost of living crisis.

Following the announcement by the UK Government of the financial package to support swimming pools in England, we are considering what support, including ensuring the longer term sustainability and energy efficiency of these facilities, can be provided to the sport and leisure sector in Scotland.

The Scottish Government will continue to work with sportscotland, local authorities, COSLA, Community Leisure UK and Scottish Swimming to understand the challenges facing swimming pools and leisure facilities.

The Cabinet Undersecretary and I had a constructive meeting in November last year during which we spoke about the shared challenges that the COVID19 pandemic had brought to the culture sector and our Culture Strategy for Scotland, setting out our vision on how to protect and empower culture.

Local authorities are responsible for decisions around the enforcement of parking restrictions and the consideration of any exemptions is at their discretion. Their powers are set out in statute and, as long as they act lawfully, it is up to each local authority to manage its day-to-day business including the management of any parking permits.

Data on the poverty-related attainment gap in schools for each year since 2016 is publicly available in the NIF Interactive Evidence Report , which holds data on a range of key measures by academic year from 2016-17 onwards. In December we published the 2023 National Improvement Framework and Plan , which set out the latest evidence for progress and our plans, shared with local government, for closing the poverty-related attainment gap.

Further to this, in February 2023, the Summary Statistics for Attainment and Initial Leaver Destinations were published, providing information on the attainment and initial destinations of 2021-22 school leavers in Scotland. Decisions on device procurement, distribution and use of devices are taken by local authorities themselves.

The statistics in Bib number 64128 provide a total count of elective and emergency hospital activity for inpatients stays and day cases; and elective new and return outpatient appointments, for patients resident in NHS Highland, NHS Orkney, NHS Shetland and NHS Western Isles, by NHS Board of Treatment and Specialty.

Information on total spend on suicide prevention activity by individual Health Boards is not held centrally by the Scottish Government. Information on net mental health expenditure by individual Health Boards is published on the Public Health Scotland website Scottish health service costs under data files mental health expenditure Excel workbook . Note, however, that expenditure data is collected by broad specialties and does not identify suicide prevention work specifically. Suicide prevention will be an aspect of work across all mental health specialities.

The Secretary General and I had a constructive meeting in November last year during which Mr Ferrer and his colleagues provided me with an insight on the Paradores model and the work being done to repurpose and restore historical buildings and bring commercial activity to areas of historical importance.
