Questions and answers

Parliamentary questions can be asked by any MSP to the Scottish Government or the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. The questions provide a means for MSPs to get factual and statistical information.

  • Written questions must be answered within 10 working days (20 working days during recess)
  • Other questions such as Topical, Portfolio, General and First Minister's Question Times are taken in the Chamber

To ask the Scottish Government what its response is to the finding of a recent NUS Scotland survey that (a) 12% of students have experienced homelessness during their studies, (b) 13% have been unable to find accommodation before their academic year began and (c) 35% have been unable to pay their rent in full.

To ask the Scottish Government what action it is taking to ensure that local authorities meet their legal requirements in relation to homelessness, in light of a report by the Association of Local Authority Chief Housing Officers reportedly highlighting that more than half of Scotland's councils (19 out of 32) have registered a red flag on at least one of three key aspects of their services, meaning that they were "struggling to cope with regular statutory breaches".
