PE1865/Z - Suspend all surgical mesh and fixation devices

Following a procedure for uterus prolapse I ended up with mesh fitted through my abdomen, a procedure that is still allowed today. From the minute I left the hospital in 2017, till today I have been in constant pain, in my back, specifically lower back near my sacrum and my pelvis.

I was not fully informed of the possibility of resulting pain from this procedure either in my back or pelvis or of the potential to end up with permanent damage.

I was not examined by my implanting surgeon to determine the status of my prolapse prior to my surgery.

My aftercare was shockingly bad! I was lost in the system and had to request a post op appointment which was 6 months later. By this point i was in serious pain and still had a prolapse. At my appointment my implanting surgeon was not present and refused to come and see me despite me highlighting my concerns. My implanting surgeon examined me for the FIRST time 18 months POST OP!!

In the 4 years since implanting the mesh I have been constantly battling pain on a daily basis. I am on a cocktail of medication just be able to exist. I have no quality of life. I need help looking after my children and house. I have lost my job and no longer have the professional career as a Chartered Mechanical Engineer. I had a life before mesh now I just exist!

I have had numerous struggles trying to get help and support through the NHS I have not been listened to but simply ignored. I have had to pay privately to get my mesh removed, this has not reversed the damage done but stopped it from getting worse. There is no cure for mesh damage!

In January 2021 I had it confirmed by my private gynaecologist that I do not have a uterus prolapse with my mesh removed and without a doubt I DID NOT have a uterus prolapse when my implanting surgeon fitted mesh to hold up my perfectly fine uterus in 2017!!

I NEVER NEEDED THE MESH IN THE FIRST PLACE!!

This petition is so important to prevent this from happening to others in the future, as this is not a life worth living.
