That the Parliament welcomes the announcement that James Watt Dock Marina in Greenock is to develop an £850,000 operations facility and customer space; understands that the 400-square-metre building will have a reception area, management offices, a marine trade hub, a food and drinks area and meeting room space available for hire, as well as family rooms with changing, shower and toilet facilities; notes that planning permission is already in place for a marina building, and new designs have now been drawn up by consultants, Marina Projects; believes that these plans will deliver a fully-serviced marine leisure destination, and commends all the partners involved in this vision, which will see the next stage in the regeneration of the historic James Watt Dock come to life.

That the Parliament congratulates Rhys McCole on receiving the Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland’s Young Citizen Peacemaker Award for his work teaching boxing skills; understands that the young boxer from Greenock has been recognised for incorporating valuable life lessons such as anti-bullying, anti-weapon crime, anti-drugs and substance abuse, and common manners and courtesy into his teaching; further understands that Rhys was nominated after previously winning the Rotary Club of Gourock Sadhu Gupta Young Citizens’ Award; notes that Rhys has gained many accolades for his charity and volunteering work while becoming a full-time coach and fitness instructor with his own business; commends Rhys for using his boxing talent to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and wishes him all the best as he continues this positive work.

That the Parliament welcomes the opening of a new museum and art gallery in Greenock that is dedicated to artist George Wyllie; understands that the facility, named The Wyllieum, is dedicated to Wyllie’s work, including his 80ft-long (25m) The Paper Boat, which was launched on the Clyde over three decades ago to highlight the loss of industry in the west of Scotland; notes that Wyllie, although born in Glasgow, lived and worked in Inverclyde for many years; recognises that the museum forms part of the new £20 million cruise ship visitors' centre at Greenock Ocean Terminal; believes that this addition to Inverclyde’s tourist offering will provide a positive boost to the local area, and wishes all those involved in The Wyllieum all the best for its launch, as it opens to the public from 26 April 2024.

That the Parliament congratulates Paul McKenzie and Boogie Box Jive Dance Group for all that they have achieved in West Dunbartonshire; understands that the group was started in the Dumbarton Denny Club over 20 years ago by providing jive classes for people aged 14 and over; recognises that, during this time, it has raised over £200,000 for local and national charities, such as the Beatson Cancer Charity, Glasgow Children's Hospital and the Skylark Trust; notes that the group has visited nearly every care home in West Dunbartonshire to put on a jive demonstration for older people to enjoy free of charge; understands that the group also brings the joy of jive to the patients in the stroke and dementia wards at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital every month, and thanks everyone involved for all that they have done and continue to do to raise funds and bring enjoyment to people's lives.

That the Parliament notes public petition PE1887 on creating a specific offence that enables courts to hand down longer sentences where miscarriage has been caused through acts of domestic violence.

That the Parliament is pleased to celebrate Europe Day 2024, which takes place on 9 May and marks the 74th anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration; considers that Europe Day is a chance to reflect on the aspiration for peace and unity across Europe, both within and outwith the EU; notes with alarm that this Europe Day takes place at a time of war in Europe, and reinforces Scotland’s solidarity with the people of Ukraine; applauds the efforts of organisations, including the European Movement in Scotland, New Europeans UK, Citizens’ Rights Project, and the Scottish Council on Global Affairs, to mark Europe Day 2024 with a Festival of Europe, which will be held from 11-12 May at Summerhall in Edinburgh; is firm in the belief that Scotland remains a steadfastly European nation, bound to its neighbours by a long history of cultural, social and economic ties; notes that the flag of Europe is still flown with pride outside the Scottish Parliament building; recommits to the shared EU values of human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law and human rights, as well as the EU motto, "United in Diversity"; notes what it sees as the positive impact that EU programmes and structural funds have had on communities in the Na h-Eileanan an Iar constituency and across rural Scotland; regrets what it sees as the continued damage on Scotland’s economy and society resulting from Brexit, and that, it believes, the people of Scotland had their European citizenship taken from them against their democratic will; notes the belief that it is in Scotland’s interests to rejoin the EU and the single market, and reaffirms what it considers to be Scotland’s aspiration to play an active role in its European future.

That the Parliament congratulates former Scottish women rugby internationalists, Sandra Colomartino and Sue Brodie, along with Scottish screenwriter, Kim Millar, on the success of their hugely inspiring stage play, 90 Days, which played before sell-out audiences at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh earlier in April 2024, gaining much critical acclaim; notes that it tells what it sees as the inspiring story of how Scotland rescued the 1994 Rugby World Cup, which was originally meant to be hosted by the Netherlands, only to be suddenly cancelled 90 days before the event was due to kick off; understands that Scotland's first-ever captain, Sandra, and full-back, Sue, rescued the tournament in a miraculous turn of events and became the unlikely saviours of the World Cup, following a meeting at Todd's Tap pub in Leith; recognises what it sees as the huge challenges that the women's game faced in the early years, and celebrates what it considers to be the positive changes in women's sport over the three decades since; believes that the uplifting, moving musical lifts a glass to friendship, tenacity, empowerment and love that has inspired Scottish women and girls to take up the sport of rugby, which is now flourishing across the whole of the country, and wishes Sandra and Sue continued success in the knowledge that they had "something inside so strong" and provided the firm foundations for the game to grow both in Scotland and globally.

That the Parliament commends the launch of a new website to cater to the needs of care experienced young people as they move out of care into adulthood; recognises that the online platform, designed and produced with care experienced young people and the help of local services and supports, offers a comprehensive array of resources, information and connections to support services across the region, with the aim of making the transition easier; believes that the launch of this platform marks a significant milestone in North Lanarkshire’s commitment to supporting care experienced individuals, and recognises what it sees as the importance of providing care experienced young people with a range of comprehensive resources, guidance and services to nurture independence and empower their navigation through the challenges of adulthood with confidence.

That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow-born Jasleen Kaur on being shortlisted for 2024's Turner Prize for her artwork, Alter Altar, at Tramway, which is aimed at showcasing her life growing up in Glasgow's Sikh community; notes that the artwork uses a vintage Ford Escort car to represent her father’s first car and his migrant desires; understands that the car blasts snippets of uplifting pop songs referencing freedom and liberation throughout the space; further understands that the exhibition at the Tramway uses family photos, an Axminster carpet, the vintage Ford Escort covered in a giant doily, Irn-Bru and kinetic hand bells; understands that the artist used a range of objects associated with her own family life for her artistic creations in the exhibition, which has been praised by the jury for its evocative combination of sound and sculpture to address specifics of family memory and community struggle; notes that Jasleen previously showcased her work Yoorup at the Victoria and Albert Museum, which looked at popular Indian cinema; understands that what it sees as Britain’s prestigious Turner Prize is celebrating its 40th anniversary and is celebrating the visual art form this year, and wishes Jasleen the best of luck.
