Emma Howat from Dollar Shortlisted for Prestigious Tennis Award

That the Parliament welcomes the news that a young tennis star from Dollar has been shortlisted for a prestigious award in a national Tennis awards ceremony for her contributions to the sport both on and off the court; understands that Emma Howat has been shortlisted for Young Person of the Year in recognition of her contributions to Dollar Tennis Club in 2021; further understands that her accomplishments also include striving to ensure that junior players right across Clackmannanshire are able to increase their involvement in tennis by creating opportunities for competitive play; understands that the shortlist, as part of the wider Tennis Scotland Awards 2022, recognises the contributions of individuals, clubs, programmes, and competitions that all played a key role in growing the game in 2021; further understands that Emma has been described by her club as being a very good tennis player, who worked tirelessly for the club through last season and that she has shown a huge commitment to tennis; understands that the club notes her incredible enthusiasm and love of children, which has made her so popular with all ages in the club; further understands that in 2021, she was coaching out of working hours whilst constantly running practices, club nights, tournaments, barbecues and several junior teams ranging in age from eight to 16, all on a voluntary basis; understands that, in total, 24 nominees have been announced across nine separate categories, with the winners to be revealed online on 29 April 2022, prior to an awards ceremony at the Davis Cup taking place at the Emirates Arena in September 2022; notes that the eventual winners will also secure a place at the LTA British Tennis Awards later in 2022; commends Emma on what it sees as her outstanding achievements in the sport and for her club, and wishes her the very best of luck at the awards.
