Incel-related Violence

  • Submitted by: James Dornan, Glasgow Cathcart, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 26 August 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00897
  • Current status: Achieved cross-party support

That the Parliament notes the recent reported shootings of two men, two women and an infant in Plymouth; further notes reports that the alleged perpetrator was someone who identified as an incel, or involuntary celibate; understands that this grouping comprises of predominantly young adult males who feel that they should be entitled to sex, and that it is women's duty to facilitate this; further understands that there have been a series of incidents of what it sees as violent terrorism from some people identifying as incels, and utterly condemns any such violence, as well as what it considers the twisted attitudes and misogyny underpinning some incel beliefs.
