  • Submitted by: Jeremy Balfour, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 26 November 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23501

That the Parliament acknowledges that 3 December 2020 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities; notes that this day was first introduced by the UN in 1992 in order to raise awareness of the challenges that people with disabilities face on a daily basis; understands that one in five of the Scottish population define themselves as disabled yet, despite this, there is still much to be done in Scotland to tackle disability discrimination, which it considers is highlighted by a disability employment rate of only 46.9%; notes that the theme for this year is "Building back better: towards an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world"; acknowledges that the current pandemic has further disadvantaged those with a disability, many of whom have found this year incredibly isolating, and believes that everyone has a responsibility to reduce the challenges and exclusion faced by people with disabilities.
