  • Submitted by: Claudia Beamish, South Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 29 October 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23198

That the Parliament looks forward to the COP26 conference taking place in Glasgow from 1 November 2021; believes that the success of this conference is vital to achieving global climate action; acknowledges what it sees as the importance of the Paris Agreement, which commits all signatories to take action to limit emissions, finance climate adaptation and support communities already impacted by the climate crisis; welcomes the recent report by Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, Delivering Climate Justice at COP26 in Glasgow, which argues that climate action must include support for developing countries; agrees that such action must include support for developing countries, including financial assistance; considers that it is very important that the Scottish Government sets out plans to get on track to its climate targets set out in the Climate Change (Emissions Reduction Targets) (Scotland) Act 2019 in its forthcoming Climate Change Plan update, and recognises what it considers to be the important role that the Scottish Government and Parliament can play in ensuring the success of this conference.
