  • Submitted by: Bill Kidd, Glasgow Anniesland, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 26 October 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23132

That the Parliament recognises that the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) has now been ratified by 50 states at the UN, with this number being reached on 24 October 2020, which enables the Treaty to enter into force in January 2021; understands that the Treaty, which was initiated and worked for by the Nobel Peace Prize-winning, international campaign organisation, ICAN, was negotiated in 2017 by 122 states at the UNHQ in New York, and notes that it will lead to the inaugural conference of States Parties to the TPNW within one year of the Treaty’s entry into force.
