Cat Browne Completes Mount Everest Fundraising Challenge

  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 01 October 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-22919

That the Parliament congratulates Cat Browne, from Orkney, on completing her fundraising challenge to climb the equivalent of Mount Everest; understands that Cat, who is a lieutenant with the Kirkwall Detachment of the 1st Highlanders Army Cadets, climbed Wideford Hill on the outskirts of Kirkwall 40 times over seven days to ascend the equivalent height of Mount Everest, after her planned trip to Everest Base Camp in 2020 was postponed due to COVID-19; recognises that Cat has so far raised £935 from her challenge to support the work of the Kirkwall and St Ola Army Cadets and the armed forces charity, SSAFA, after their fundraising efforts have also been put on hold due to the pandemic; congratulates Cat on her impressive achievement, which is testament to her incredible self-determination and dedication; thanks her for her hard work to raise vital funds for both groups, and wishes Cat all the very best for when she is able to take on her goal of reaching Everest Base Camp.
