  • Motion reference: S5M-20397

That the Parliament congratulates Sheila Jones from Garthdee on being awarded the British Empire Medal in the 2020 New Year’s Honours; notes that she has received this award for more than 30 years of service to the community of Kaimhill in Aberdeen; understands that 91-year-old Sheila, who served in the Women’s Royal Naval Service during the Second World War, has led many community groups in the Kaimhill community, including chairing the original Kaimhill Management Committee, which managed to help 500 people with just two volunteers and almost no budget; recognises Sheila’s contribution to education in the local community over the years as the lifeblood of the Kaimhill Learning Centre, and wishes her the very best with her activism and her day out to receive the medal that she has so well earned.
