McLaren Packaging of Port Glasgow to Develop Green Energy Facility

  • Submitted by: Stuart McMillan, Greenock and Inverclyde, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 21 October 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-19508

That the Parliament commends the Port Glasgow-based McLaren Packaging on raising £5.5 million of investment with Swanline Group to develop what it believes will be the world's first green energy facility to be powered by organic waste understands that the award-winning family-run firm is working with Swanline Group to produce heat and power for manufacturing corrugated sheet board using a sustainable energy source; notes that the venture, CorrBoard Bioenergy, uses food waste sourced from customers to fuel production of the material that is used at the McLaren plant in Devol Industrial Estate; recognises that, as well as providing a clean, sustainable energy source, a by-product of the technology is a quality fertiliser that can be spread on farmland to aid crop growth; commends the business on its ingenuity to help make its processes and products more environmentally-friendly, and wishes the firm continued success.
