Orkney Native Wildlife Project

  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 25 October 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-14471

That the Parliament welcomes the £3.5 million and £2.6 million in support that has been awarded to the Orkney Native Wildlife Project by the Big Lottery Fund and LIFE; understands that this will support the project in its work, which aims to safeguard Orkney’s wildlife by maintaining an environment made safe because of a lack of native predators; believes that, as well as supporting efforts to remove predators, including stoats, the project works to raise awareness in the community about the potential impact of invasive species on the environment; considers Orkney’s wildlife to be of international significance and that it has an important role in attracting visitors; believes that the project is therefore beneficial to both the Orcadian environment and economy, and sends its best wishes to everyone involved with it.
