That the Parliament congratulates the John Rae Society on completing its final purchase of the Hall of Clestrain in Orphir, Orkney, the birthplace and former home of the explorer, John Rae; understands that the John Rae Society is a charitable organisation that was set up to spread awareness of Rae’s achievements, which include discovering the final link of the Northwest Passage in the Arctic; considers that John Rae has not been properly recognised for his discoveries; commends the effort made by all members and volunteers to preserve and promote this important piece of Orkney’s cultural heritage and to promote Rae’s achievements, and wishes the John Rae Society all the best in its efforts to restore the Hall of Clestrain, and in its future endeavours.
