Borders College Wins Green Gown Award

  • Submitted by: Michelle Ballantyne, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 22 November 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-09107

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Borders College has recently won the prize for best newcomer at the 2017 Green Gown Awards for its waste water heat recovery system; understands that, in December 2015, the college became the first organisation in the UK to install such a system, which intercepts waste water from a sewer line operated by Scottish Water, extracts the natural warmth in it and transfers its heat, after amplifying it, to the college’s heating system; understands that it provides 95% of the head needed by the campus; notes that the Green Gown Awards, which were first held in 2004, recognise exceptional sustainability initiatives by universities and colleges, and commends Borders College on this achievement.
