That the Parliament congratulates Davey McKenzie of Speyside Cooperage in Moray on becoming a Guinness World Record holder, having set the fastest time to build a 190 litre barrel on 29 April 2017; understands that Davey went up against his warehouse colleagues, Brent Bowie, Kyle Cooper and Calum Lawson at an event organised to mark the 25th anniversary of the Speyside Cooperage Visitor Centre and the Cooperage's 70th year; notes that Guinness World Records had put in place a seven and a half minute time limit on creating the casks but that all coopers completed the task within four minutes, with Davey setting the new world record at three minutes and three seconds; commends the Speyside Cooperage Visitor Centre manager, Gill Reid on organising the event that showcased the skills of the coopers to the great many tourists who attended the event, and considers that the display provided a powerful reminder of the skills and hard work that underpins this key part of the whisky industry
