Funding Success for Cockenzie House and Gardens

  • Submitted by: Craig Hoy, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 15 April 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12822

That the Parliament congratulates Cockenzie House and Gardens, located in East Lothian, on being awarded £227,400 by the Scottish Land Fund to buy Cockenzie and Port Seton Old Parish Church and Hall in order to use it as a community hub, offering space for groups to meet, social activities, pop-up hospitality and childcare provision; understands that a public consultation took place in 2023 to see what residents might like to happen to the Auld Kirk, as it is known locally, after the Church of Scotland deemed the building surplus to requirements following a review; notes that the Scottish Land Fund supports rural and urban communities to become more resilient and sustainable through the ownership and management of land and land assets; considers that the award means that what it sees as this much-loved, iconic building can now stay close to the heart of the community of Cockenzie and Port Seton, as it has for the last 170 years, and wishes all those involved in the project the very best of luck.
