Alcohol Alternatives Guidance

  • Submitted by: Craig Hoy, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 23 February 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12251

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of the first industry-wide guidance for the responsible packaging, marketing and promotion of adult alcohol alternatives by the Portman Group; understands that the guidance coincides with the Portman Group’s sixth annual survey in partnership with YouGov; recognises that the survey found that 23% of current alcohol drinkers said that their consumption had fallen due to low and no alcohol products; understands that the guidance includes steps that are being taken to ensure that the marketing of alcohol alternatives has no particular appeal to under-18s; further understands that the guidance is freely available for all producers of alcohol alternatives, and recognises that the Portman Group will offer free advice from the advisory service, alongside the guidance, to support responsible innovation and promotion of the category.
