West Lothian Youth Navigator

  • Submitted by: Fiona Hyslop, Linlithgow, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 30 May 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-09156

That the Parliament recognises the important work of Youth Navigator in supporting young people across Scotland to access health services; understands that this work is delivered by Medics Against Violence and provides a preventative service that supports young people who present to hospital while facing a wide range of social issues; appreciates the value of what it sees as good youth work such as this, and the importance of ensuring that young people are able to access the services that they need; understands the need to ensure these services remain funded to continue to work with young service users and accept referrals from new users; is concerned by reports that NHS Lothian's support for these services at St John’s Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People is scheduled to be withdrawn in June 2023 and that staff have been asked not to take on new referrals, and urges NHS Lothian to consider continuing to fund this service, and ensure that what it considers to be the good work of Youth Navigator is sustained to support young people across NHS Lothian, and, in doing so, to carry out a Child Impact Assessment.
