Scottish Bus Week 2023

  • Submitted by: James Dornan, Glasgow Cathcart, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 23 May 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-09082

That the Parliament welcomes Scottish Bus Week, which takes place from 22 to 28 May 2023, delivered by Transform Scotland’s #lovemybus campaign team, in partnership with First Bus; understands that Scottish Bus Week aims to highlight the important role that buses play in the climate challenges that the world faces, as well as, it believes, improving health, reducing pressure on the NHS, tackling inequalities and strengthening the economy through investment in low- and zero-emission buses, as well as providing green jobs through bus services and manufacturing; further understands that First Bus Glasgow’s fleet will have over 200 emission-free vehicles in the coming months, with the recent delivery of 50 new electric vehicles, provided by Scottish vehicle manufacturer, Alexander Dennis Ltd; understands that First Aberdeen’s bus fleet will be 50% emission-free once the delivery of 24 brand new electric buses takes place in the coming weeks, with these new buses being delivered though the Scottish Zero Emission Bus (ScotZEB) Challenge Fund; notes that the Glasgow Caledonia depot, the UK’s largest EV charging hub and site of COP26 events, has 160 state-of-the-art rapid charging points, supporting First Bus’s reported ambition to be emission-free by 2035; commends everyone involved in delivering this year’s Scottish Bus Week programme, and encourages everyone to get involved by using #ChooseBus, #lovemybus, #WalktoBus and #WalkCycleBus.
