Bladder Cancer Awareness Month

  • Submitted by: Rhoda Grant, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 16 May 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08926

That the Parliament notes that May 2023 is Bladder Cancer Awareness Month; understands that nearly 1,700 people in Scotland are diagnosed with bladder cancer each year; further understands that the five-year survival rates for bladder cancer in Scotland are the lowest in Europe, and that these survival rates have not changed or improved in over three decades; calls for greater support for research into the causes of bladder cancer, and for awareness campaigns to highlight the signs and symptoms of bladder cancer; supports the calls from Bladder Cancer Scotland and Fight Bladder Cancer to highlight greater awareness; understands that there are several events happening across Scotland to highlight the signs and symptoms of the disease, including the lighting up in orange of Ness Bridge in Inverness, and hopes that MSPs across the Chamber will show their support for Bladder Cancer Awareness Month by wearing orange.
