A Perfect Storm: Fuel Poverty in Rural Scotland

  • Submitted by: Rhoda Grant, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 04 May 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08833
  • Current status: Has not yet achieved cross-party support

That the Parliament welcomes the Changeworks report, A Perfect Storm: Fuel Poverty in Rural Scotland; understands that fuel poverty is higher in the Highlands and Islands and is exacerbated by lower wages, higher energy bills and poorer housing conditions; further understands that these factors, and others, are causing depopulation in rural and remote areas, and notes the calls for the Scottish Government to address these issues urgently to help remote and rural communities, and to reach its climate goals.
