That the Parliament notes the publication by the organisations 4 Day Week Global, 4 Day Week and Autonomy, in February 2023, of the results of what it believes to be the first ever four-day week trial held over a six-month period in the UK; recognises what it sees as the positive results of the UK’s Four-day Week Pilot, where 61 participating companies enabled employees to work 80% of previously contracted hours with no loss in pay; notes that the trial results found that 92% of the companies involved decided to continue with the four-day week after the end of the trial; considers that the positive impacts of a four-day week for business and employees include increased productivity and performance, rises in revenue, increased staff retention, reduced days off for illness and personal reasons, and decreased stress and burnout among employees; further considers that a four-day week is a viable alternative to current work practices, is an initiative that boosts productivity, and can provide clear benefits to organisations, while allowing employees a better work-life balance, and urges the Scottish Government to take forward research on the delivery of a four-day working week pilot as set out in the 2022-23 Programme for Government.
