Charity Walker’s Canine Companion Recognised with Award

That the Parliament congratulates greyhound saluki dog, Jet, on receipt of a Commendation from the PDSA for devotion to her owner, Chris Lewis, during his long walk around the UK’s coastline raising awareness and funds for veterans charity, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA); understands that Chris adopted Jet in Northern Ireland and that she has accompanied him for years on his walk; further understands that at the time Chris adopted Jet he had raised £7,000 and that he has now raised £272,000; acknowledges Jet’s loyalty to Chris and that the strong bond between the two has aided Chris in continuing the challenge; notes that PDSA Commendations are part of the PDSA Animal Awards programme, which recognises acts of extraordinary animal devotion or bravery; congratulates Chris and Jet for walking most of the UK’s coastline, having started in Swansea in August 2017, reached Unst in Shetland, the most northerly part of the UK, in December 2019, as celebrated in motion S5M-20230, and reached Dorchester, in May 2022; notes that Chris met his fiancée, Kate, on his travels and they have recently had a son with whom they intend to complete the rest of the walking challenge; further notes that the SSAFA provides lifelong support to people like Chris who have served in the Armed Forces and have has to adjust to civilian life, and wishes Chris and his family well as they prepare to continue the coastline walk.
