Questions and answers

Parliamentary questions can be asked by any MSP to the Scottish Government or the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. The questions provide a means for MSPs to get factual and statistical information.

Written questions must be answered within 10 working days (20 working days during recess)
Other questions such as Topical, Portfolio, General and First Minister's Question Times are taken in the Chamber

To ask the Scottish Government how many buses were ordered under each round of the Ultra-Low Emission Bus Scheme (SULEBS), broken down by (a) manufacturer and (b) place of manufacture.

Below is a list of how many buses were ordered under each round of the Ultra-Low Emission Bus Scheme broken down by manufacturer. As previously advised in answers to questions S6W-38725 and S6W-38726 on 3 July 2025, the Scottish Government does not collect data on the locations in which vehicles are manufactured.

To ask the Scottish Government what financial support it offers to (a) workers and (b) employers in the fishing industry to transition to low-impact or sustainable fishing methods.

The Scottish Government supports the fishing industry to transition to low-impact or sustainable fishing methods through the £14m Marine Fund Scotland (MFS).

Details of support awarded to date is available at www.gov.scot/publications/marine-fund-scotland-grants-awarded/

Examples include £126,000 to Fisheries Innovation & Sustainability in 2024-25 for the Smarttrawl project to improve selectivity, and £299,000 to KIMO to help fishers responsibly dispose of and recycle waste, including nets.

To ask the Scottish Government what consideration it has given to practical training programmes for (a) workers and (b) employers seeking to transition to low-impact or sustainable fishing methods.

The Scottish Government supports the fishing industry to transition to low-impact or sustainable fishing methods through the £14m Marine Fund Scotland (MFS).

An example of support for training is £51,000 awarded to Fishing into the Future in 2024-25. This enabled them to hold an event bringing together the fishing industry, scientists and fisheries management to encourage innovation and sustainable practices.

To ask the Scottish Government when it will publish its response to the national review of Alcohol Brief Interventions (ABIs).

The Scottish Government is engaging widely on the creation of a new approach to care and support for people impacted by alcohol. The recommendations made in the Public Health Scotland review of ABI are a key component of our engagement.

Our aim is to publish our new approach in 2026. This will include actions for re-affirming our commitment to brief interventions in all settings as well as how we will meet the recommendation to embed conversations about alcohol over 10 years.
