To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will list the travel costs, including foreign trips, associated with the National Conversation, indicating the minister and officials involved.

National Conversation activity by ministers and officials is normally conducted as part of a programme of Scottish Government business in a particular area. As a result no additional travel costs which can be directly attributed to the National Conversation are incurred. Costs relating to journeys arranged through the Government Car Service are not available in the format requested.

Where travel costs by ministers or officials can be directly attributed to the National Conversation they are set out in the following table.*

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will detail (a) the total cost of hospitality for and (b) how many people attended each National Conversation event.

Over 483,000 hits on the National Conversation website; 37,000 people accessing Choosing Scotland''s Future online, and more than 2500 people attending events organised as part of the National Conversation demonstrates widespread enthusiasm for debating Scotland''s constitutional future.

The following table sets out the cost of hospitality and the number of people attending National Conversation events which were directly organised, involved or were paid for by the Scottish Government. The Scottish Government does not hold information about the cost of events organised by others.

To ask the Scottish Executive how many hits on the National Conversation website there were in each month of 2008 and what percentage of hits has been return or multiple visits.

There have been over 474,000 hits on the National Conversation website themed pages; 36,500 people have read the white paper on-line; 10,800 downloads of the white paper; and 4,300 comments have been posted on the blog. This is evidence of the website''s success as a platform for debate about Scotland''s future.

The table shows the number of hits on National Conversation themed pages by month in 2008. Approximately 77% of visitors to the site during this period were new. It is anticipated that the launch of the next phase of the National Conversation will result in another rise in take up.

To ask the Scottish Executive how much it has paid Sandi Thom, directly or through an agent, for attending or performing at Scottish Government-supported events, broken down by individual payment and including expenses.

Sandi Thom has not accepted a performance fee for any of the Scottish Government“supported events she has participated in.

Expenses paid to Sandi Thom are as follows for 2008:

St Andrew''s DO at West Princes Street Gardens “ Hotel accommodation (£860), breakfast, dinner and refreshments (£581.75), flights for Ms Thom, her three piece band and tour manager (£1,440.53), car (£404.00) and the Agency fee (£750).

Launch at Duff House “ agency fee of £1,000 and transport costs of £1,478.30.

All celebrities, including Sandi Thom, who were involved in producing and launching the Homecoming Scotland television advert, gave their time for no charge.

In 2007 Sandi Thom was paid a flat rate of £3,000 towards covering expenses associated with appearing at Scottish Government supported St Andrew''s Day events.

To ask the Scottish Executive what the arrangements are in Scotland for consideration of nominations for honours and what changes there have been since May 2007.

Nominations are received from a variety of sources, including members of the public, outside organisations and Lord-Lieutenants. Prior to May 2007, Scottish ministers added their own nominations to those from other sources. Nominations from all sources are initially assessed by Scottish Government officials who assist the Permanent Secretary in preparing recommendations for the UK-wide selection committees to consider. Since May 2007, the First Minister has chosen not to exercise the right to approve the recommendations by the Permanent Secretary. The UK-wide selection committees submit their recommendations to HM The Queen through the Prime Minister.
