Dundee University is still accepting applications for the MSc in educational psychology for its 2016 intake.

There is no statutory duty for local authorities to provide a certain number of educational psychologists. Section 4 of the Education (Scotland) Act 1980 places a duty on every education authority to provide for that area a psychological service, and sets out the functions that service will undertake. The Act does not set out the type of service or staffing to deliver that service as they are matters for each education authority.

On train cycle capacity on the Edinburgh-Glasgow via Falkirk route will not reduce and when ScotRail introduces new electric trains onto the route it is looking at options which have worked successfully elsewhere on the network such as in Ayrshire and North Berwick.

The requirement for accessible toilets and wheelchair areas will impact on the cycle carrying capacity of class 158s which will operate on the West Highland line from December 2017 and Transport Scotland are working with ScotRail to minimise any impact on passengers who want to travel with bicycles.

The Scottish Government is working closely with Abellio ScotRail to ensure all rail users’ needs are taken into account for everyday journeys as outlined in the Cycling Action Plan for Scotland which identifies that integration between modes is crucial to the promotion of active travel.

Travelling actively to and from transport interchanges should be as easy as possible which is why this Scottish Government is investing a record amount of funding: £39 million for the last two years and again next year, in active travel.

ScotRail will invest over £4 million in facilities at stations and improvements on train to make it easier for rail passengers to integrate with cycling as part of their journey choices.

It is the responsibility of each individual education authority to take their statutory duties into account, establish their priorities in light of local circumstances and to allocate their resources appropriately. In this context, it is for each local authority to take decisions around the number of educational psychologists it employs.

The Scottish Government continue to work with the National Scottish Steering Group for Educational Psychologists (NSSGEP). Throughout 2015, the focus of the group was to undertake a workforce planning project. The secondee worked with the group to develop and conduct a workforce planning survey and to begin the analysis and presentation of the findings before the post ended in August 2015. A summary report of the survey findings was shared and discussed at a National Conference for Educational Psychology held by Education Scotland in January 2016. The purpose of the conference was to bring together a wide range of stakeholders, which included members of the NSSGEP, to explore the future direction of educational psychology services in Scotland.

The University of Dundee and the University of Strathclyde run, with an intake in alternate years, two year Master of Science courses in educational psychology. The number of applications for each intake year since 2010 is shown in the following table:
