To ask the Scottish Executive what progress has been made in evaluating the transformation of flooded coal mines for geothermal power.
Answer
The Scottish Government has commissioned research to examine Scotland’s geothermal potential, including an assessment of abandoned mine workings, and to identify policy options for increasing commercial confidence in taking forward the exploitation of deep geothermal heat. The results of the study are expected to be available by spring 2013.

To ask the Scottish Executive how much will be paid by supermarkets as a result of the proposed public health levy.
Answer
The public health supplement will increase the business rates paid by large retailers who sell both alcohol and tobacco by an estimated £95 million over the period 2012-15.
