To ask the Scottish Government what areas of activity of David MacBrayne Ltd and CalMac Ferries would typically be considered appropriate for an Island Communities Impact Assessment under the duties of the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018.
Answer
David MacBrayne Ltd is a Relevant Authority under the Islands Act. It is for individual bodies to consider their responsibilities under the Act when carrying out their activities.
CalMac Ferries ltd is not listed as a Relevant Authority in the Act, and is therefore not subject to the same duties under the Act.

To ask the Scottish Government what representations it can make to the UK Government in response to reports that some businesses in Scotland are facing difficulties supplying smoked salmon direct to customers in the EU via mail order, with shipments, sometimes with accompanying health certificates, being delayed or rejected by customs officials, in light of reported assurances by the UK Government that such certificates should not be required for shipments of up to 20kg.
Answer
The Scottish Government has a number of ways to engage with UK Government on trade matters and has championed the interests of Scottish seafood exporters throughout the EU exit and trade negotiations process. That work continues through the Scottish Seafood Industry Action Group.
The issue of delayed or rejected smoked salmon consignments has not been raised with the Scottish Government directly. I wrote to the member on 2 December 2021 to seek further information and to put the affected business(es) in touch with my officials directly.

To ask the Scottish Government what action it can take to help address the reported concerns of people living in Uig, Lewis, regarding mobile signal and 4G access, in light of reports of difficulties in getting EE to facilitate repairs to their local masts more timeously.
Answer
The Scottish Government are aware of a technical issue which affect EE 4G mobile telecoms access in Uig, Lewis. Scottish Government officials have been in regular contact with EE for the duration of the issue.
We understand this issue has taken longer to resolve than originally anticipated due to the availability of replacement parts, caused by global supply chain issues.
EE sought to provide interim solutions until the service could be fully restored which included reinstating SMS and voice services, with some limited data access.
EE have now resolved the issue by upgrading the entire module which also gives the mast site increased resilience.

To ask the Scottish Government what support is available to townships that are trying to improve the condition of their primary road to a point where it can be adopted by the local authority.
Answer
The Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 places the statutory responsibility for local roads, including the improvement of private roads to adoptable standards, on local authorities. Townships should approach their local authority roads department in the first instance for advice on road adoption standards in their area.
