To ask the Scottish Executive what plans it has to minimise the impact on rail travellers unable to travel between Motherwell and Edinburgh as a result of the temporary withdrawal of most of the daily services between them by GNER.
Answer
Transport Scotland indiscussions with GNER and with assistance from First ScotRail has been able tominimise the impact for customers in relation to the morning and evening peaklevel of service between Motherwell and Edinburgh. The normal frequency ofservices has been maintained at these peak times, but with some unavoidableextension of journey times.
Periods out with these timesare covered by bus services between Motherwell and Edinburgh Waverley.

To ask the Scottish Executive what plans it has to improve access to NHS dentists in (a) Hamilton, (b) Blantyre and (c) Burnbank.
Answer
The responsibility for theoverall provision of NHS dental services in these areas rests with NHSLanarkshire. A recent survey of access to NHS general dental services by NHSLanarkshire shows that seven general dental practitioners in Hamilton,including Burnbank, and three in Blantyre have indicated their ability to accept new NHSpatients onto their lists.
NHS Lanarkshire has plansfor a new Dental Resource Centre in Hamilton.
From 1 April 2007responsibility for considering and approving Scottish Dental Access Initiativegrants has been devolved to NHS boards. The scheme has also been expanded toprovide for the purchase or relocation of existing NHS dental practices inorder to maintain access to NHS general dental services and to include specialistorthodontic practices. The financial assistance available under the scheme hasalso been revised.

To ask the Scottish Executive what plans it has to support and enhance local health care services to communities in (a) Hamilton, (b) Blantyre and (c) Burnbank.
Answer
NHS Lanarkshire have aprogramme of investment to upgrade existing and provide new premises to improvelocal health services in the Hamilton area. Relative priorities are a matter for the board.The Executive is continuing to invest heavily in improvements to the NHSoverall, and as such to shift the balance of care towards local and communityservices.
