To ask the Scottish Executive whether it has any plans to extend funding for community wardens beyond spring 2006.
Answer
A further £66 million in Executive funding for action to tackle anti-social behaviour for the period to March 2008 was announced in the Spending Review 2004. The allocation of these funds will be decided and announced shortly: but where local authorities and their Community Planning partners identify warden schemes as key priorities in their antisocial behaviour strategies, the Executive will certainly consider providing financial support for them.

The Scottish Executive is determined to secure operational efficiency in the Civil Service and public sector through ensuring that public servants are in the right job, at the right time and the right place.
Targets which seek a reduction in employee numbers would play no useful part in this.
