To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will provide details of its plans to establish a new music initiative to help support the contemporary development of new musical artists.
Answer
We will be taking forward discussions with relevant stakeholders to explore the creation of a New Music Scotland initiative to support existing and emerging commercial musicians, as laid out in our manifesto.
The Scottish Government currently supports musical artists through Creative Scotland. Artists are able to apply to the new quality production and talent development investment streams. Applications are being assessed for new work, recordings and associated career development opportunities for emerging artists. Creative Scotland also continues to work with the Scottish Music Industry Association.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will consider introducing a town centre regeneration fund in the current parliamentary session.
Answer
The Town Centre Regeneration Fund was always intended to be a one year capital fund. The current Scottish Budget constraints preclude a repeat of that. However, we are considering options for how best to use available sources to deliver continued support for town centre regeneration as part of the wider Regeneration Strategy which will be published at the end of the year.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it plans to consider holding a biennale of the visual arts.
Answer
There are no current plans for a new biennale of the visual arts. The Scottish Government supports the biennial Glasgow International Festival of the Visual Arts through our partners Creative Scotland. The festival is an excellent example of how we support and celebrate contemporary visual arts on an international level. The next festival is scheduled for 2012. The Scottish Government also supports the Edinburgh Art Festival through the Edinburgh Festival’s Expo Fund.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will provide more information on its plans to develop a national strategy for museums and galleries.
Answer
The overarching themes for developing a national strategy were announced on 21 March 2011. These will focus on how our museums and galleries can make the best use of available skills and resources; how the sector can meet its long-term ambitions and the impact and role of museums in society. The announcement is available on the Scottish Government website http://www.scotland.gov.uk/News/Releases/2011/03/21085336.
Work is progressing on developing a national strategy and a consultation paper will be launched in September.
