The Scottish Government asked Creative Scotland to develop a Youth Arts Strategy for Scotland, in the Letter of Guidance to Creative Scotland on its establishment in July 2010.

Creative Scotland consulted extensively with the youth arts sector and other key stakeholders in developing its brief for the strategy, which outlined the rationale scope and proposed methodology. A national discussion has continued between Scotland's young people and the organisers, supporters and deliverers of the sector, including Scotland's youth arts companies to develop the strategy.

1,802 stakeholders have contributed so far to this national discussion including 859 young people. The Children's Parliament and Young Scot carried out a variety of consultation processes through in-depth workshops, national surveys and a Youth task group. Adult stakeholders fed into the process via focus groups held across 36 locations in Scotland, and through one-to-one meetings.

Scotland's Youth Arts Strategy will be published this autumn and the Scottish Government will consider the strategy once it is finalised.

Decisions about which schools are to receive funding under the Scotland’s Schools for the Future programme are for the Scottish Government. The Scottish Futures Trust’s role is to manage the programme on behalf of the Scottish Government and to assist local authorities in the procurement of good quality, well designed, sustainable schools at a competitive price.

When the £1.25 billion Scotland’s Schools for the Future programme was announced in June 2009, it was originally expected to fund the replacement or refurbishment of 55 schools. The programme is managed by the Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) on behalf of the Scottish Government.

In October 2011, the Scottish Government announced that due to the efficient and effective management of the programme by SFT, it would be possible to deliver 12 more schools than originally planned for the same level of investment.

In February 2012, local authorities were invited to submit their bids for support from the third and final phase of the programme by 21 July. These have been received and are being evaluated. An announcement on which projects have been successful is expected by the end of September.
