The Young People’s Sport Panel has worked extensively with sportscotland in development of the Youth Sport Strategy. A member of the Panel sits on the associated Working Group, along with Youth Scotland, Young Scot and the Commissioner for Children and Young People.

An extensive consultation process will take place following publication of the Draft Strategy, engaging directly with children and young people across Scotland to ensure that their views are central to development of the final Strategy.

Yes. I want the Youth Sport Strategy to be wholly inclusive and address the needs of all our young people. That is why Scottish Disability Sport is playing a key role on the working group which has been set up to deliver the draft strategy. Other key stakeholders in the working group include the Commissioner for Children and Young People and the Young People Sports’ Panel helping ensure young people’s views are accounted for.

Children and young people with disabilities are entitled to receive the support that they need to overcome any barriers to learning. Where necessary schools should make reasonable adjustments in order to facilitate pupils with disabilities in accessing learning opportunities, including PE.

As part of the programme of support on PE for schools, we are providing Scottish Disability Sport with £125,000 to deliver a disability inclusion training programme for more than 1,000 teachers across Scotland, which will provide them with the knowledge, skills and experience to fully include disabled young people in PE.

The Scottish Government recognises that councils and housing associations are facing many pressures on their finances, not least from the UK Government’s welfare reform agenda.

Accordingly, on 8 July 2013 the Deputy First Minister announced an immediate increase of £16,000 to the benchmark subsidies for all social rented homes, whether developed by the council or by a housing association to maintain momentum in the supply programme and ensure completion of our 30,000 affordable homes target.
