To ask the Scottish Government what information it has on how many claims were made for (a) community care grants and (b) crisis loans in 2012-13 and to what value, broken down by local authority.

We do not have any information about the number of claims for community care grants, and crisis loans in 2012-2013. Information on the number of claims for community care grants and crisis loans for previous years has been published by the Department for Work and Pensions on its webpages at:

To ask the First Minister whether the reported comments of the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing that “we are still going to need the same number of beds, the same number of hospitals, the same number of doctors and nurses just to stand still” in relation to an ageing population reflect Scottish Government policy.

To ask the Scottish Government how many of its media and communications staff work (a) in and (b) with its health and social care directorate and what the total salary costs are.

Currently 14.1 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) communications staff supports the work of Health Ministers and the Director General Health and Social Care/Chief Executive of NHSScotland, who is responsible for seven Directorates in the Scottish Government. There is no Directorate for Health and Social Care. Of these FTE, 10.1 work in the Communications Directorate, while a further four work in other directorates.

These staff work on media, digital and stakeholder communications, including communications with the 132,000 staff working in NHSScotland and the 700 staff in the Scottish Government's health directorates. They also deliver the Scottish Government's public health campaigns, including Detect Cancer Early and Organ Donation. In addition to health policy, staff also work on the Commonwealth Games and sport policy.

The total 2012-13 annual staffing cost, (which covers salary and employer costs; e.g. pensions and NI, and the cost of employing any secondees) was £809,000.
