Determination of Committee priorities for Session 6: Submission from Zero Waste Scotland

Submission from Zero Waste Scotland for the evidence session on 28 September 2021

Dear Convener,

On the matter re reprocessing of material from the proposed DRS for Scotland.

This now sits firmly with Circularity Scotland the approved Scheme Administrator who will be able to directly contract or partner with potential providers of reprocessing capacity.

There is already glass reprocessing capacity in Scotland, so the main focus has been on securing a facility for PET (plastic bottles).

We know here are a number of interested parties – some of which we have met previously to the legislation being approved by Parliament – and we have made introductions to Circularity Scotland since their inception earlier this year.

Unfortunately, I don’t think I am able to place the details of these companies in the public realm at this time as there may be confidential negotiations underway between them and Circularity Scotland
I hope that is understood.

I am happy to provide anything else that might be useful

Further to your follow up on our work on the potential for steel reprocessing in Scotland, please find the Steel Reprocessing Report attached in the ANNEXE

I hope that helps for now

Best Regards
Iain Gulland
Chief Executive
