  • Motion reference: S6M-02536

That the Parliament commends the Organic Growers of Fairlie for winning two Keep Scotland Beautiful 2021 Awards; understands that they won the Involving Children and Young People award due to the volunteers’ work to encourage local youngsters into gardening and nature conservation, as well as the It’s Your Neighbourhood Level 5 Certificate of Distinction for their pollinator-friendly planting of wildflowers, long grass and nettles, providing clover patches for bees; acknowledges that the volunteers obtained an old boatyard site in Fairlie in 2008 and developed a community garden with raised bed mini allotments to ensure it was accessible to all villagers and maximised the use of soil; highlights that the volunteers actively counter climate change by teaching villagers how to grow herbs, fruit and vegetables organically and locally, and are carbon neutral by processing all garden and kitchen waste through composting and vermiculture, and wishes the Organic Growers of Fairlie the very best as they continue to increase environmental awareness within the community and improve both physical and mental wellbeing of local people through horticulture.
