Beyond Cambo: Achieving a Just Transition for Workers and Communities

  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 14 December 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02526

That the Parliament welcomes the reported decision by Siccar Point Energy to pause the Cambo oil field development; notes that this decision comes a week after Shell withdrew from the project; understands that the UK Oil and Gas Authority was due to make a decision on the licence application; notes the reported warning by the International Energy Agency that, if governments are serious about the climate crisis, there can be no new investments in oil, gas and coal; considers that urgent action is needed to reduce Scotland's economic reliance on oil and gas; believes that plans for a just transition to low-carbon energy production must support workers and communities, so that they do not pay the price of the climate emergency, and commends everyone who is campaigning to turn rhetoric on climate justice and a worker-led just transition into reality.
