  • Motion reference: S6M-02283

That the Parliament commends the work of the Scottish Burned Children’s Club (SBCC); understands that the SBCC provides a network of support and rehabilitation to burn survivor children and their families who are dealing with life-long scars from burn and scald injuries; acknowledges that burns and scalds are regarded as amongst some of the most painful of injuries, which can occur to anyone, and that such injuries can result in psychological trauma in addition to physical injury; notes that SBCC supports burn survivor children and their families through day trips, special events and visits to various organisations, as well as an annual family weekend, and five-day rehabilitation camp that encourages participants to share experiences, make friends and have fun; believes that the organisation’s positive approach helps survivors to realise that, although their body image has been altered, their hopes and dreams are just as achievable as any other child’s; supports the key role of safety awareness in the reduction of burn and scald injuries; understands that SBCC is solely funded by fundraising events, sponsorship and donations and is run and organised by a group of unpaid volunteers; expresses thanks to SBCC and their dedicated volunteers for their efforts in providing what it considers to be an important support mechanism, and wishes everyone involved with the organisation the very best in their endeavours.
