  • Submitted by: Clare Adamson, Motherwell and Wishaw, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 12 November 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02080

That the Parliament recognises that 15 November 2021 marks the start of Road Safety Week 2021; understands that the annual initiative, which began in 1997, and is coordinated by road safety charity Brake, seeks to raise awareness of road safety issues; notes that the theme of Road Safety Week 2021 is Road Safety Heroes; understands that it celebrates the heroic work of road safety professionals, and explains how everyone can play a part in making journeys safer; further understands that more than 1.3 million people die on roads every year, and that road crashes are the leading cause of death for children and young people worldwide, with more than six children killed or seriously injured on roads every day in the UK; understands that every year, thousands of schools, organisations and communities get involved, calling for the right to make safe and healthy journeys every day; commends the work of Brake to draw attention to what it sees as this important issue, and the efforts of what it sees as road safety heroes across the country, and wishes everyone involved in Road Safety Week 2021 every success.
