Peter Paterson's Bravery Recognised by the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society

  • Submitted by: Edward Mountain, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 18 October 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01699

That the Parliament congratulates Peter Paterson, from Kinlochbervie, on receiving an Individual Commendation from the Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society, which is a national maritime charity; commends the heroic actions that he performed to save the lives of seven people, including his father, from a sinking sea angling vessel about 200 metres from the shore on 1 August 2020; understands that Peter reacted to the mayday call by rushing to his own boat, Silver Dawn, with a friend, before heading out to the location of the sinking boat and transporting all the casualties back to Kinlochbervie Harbour where emergency services provided medical support, and recognises that he was presented with the prestigious award, which highlights his brave efforts and high-quality seamanship, by Princess Anne, the charity's patron, at its annual Skills and Gallantry Awards ceremony in London.
