That the Parliament welcomes the new World Health Organization Global Air Quality Guidelines (AQGs), which were published on 22 September 2021; notes that the AQGs seek to protect the health of people around the world, while also recognising that some of the key air pollutants contribute to climate change; understands that the health risks of air pollution can cause increases in lung-related health conditions and decreased lung development and function in children and young people; further understands that an estimated 2,500 premature deaths each year in Scotland are attributed to air pollution, and recognises the work of Asthma UK, the British Lung Foundation Scotland, Friends of the Earth Scotland, and other charities and third sector groups across Scotland in helping to reduce air pollution.
