Edinburgh Care Homes

  • Submitted by: Foysol Choudhury, Lothian, Scottish Labour.

  • Motion reference: S6M-01050

That the Parliament expresses real concern over Edinburgh Integration Joint Board's reported plans, which it understands would see a reduction of council provision of residential care, meaning fewer affordable options for many people who cannot afford the alternatives; understands that Clovenstone, Ford's Road, Jewel House and Ferrylee care homes would all close as a result; considers that, if proposals go ahead as planned, it will be during a time when people are living longer with more complex illnesses, adding further pressure on Edinburgh families; believes that, without additional support from the Scottish Government, more services are at risk of being reduced, or even closing altogether, and calls on the Scottish Government to fully fund the care of older people, whether in care homes or through proper and adequate care at home that is fully funded.
