Macmillan Cancer Support’s Annual Coffee Morning Fundraiser

  • Submitted by: Gillian Mackay, Central Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 06 September 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01034

That the Parliaments welcomes Macmillan Cancer Support’s annual Coffee Morning fundraiser; notes that the event is dedicated to bringing people together over coffee and cake to raise vital funds for people living with cancer; acknowledges that nearly almost 98% of Macmillan's funding comes directly from donations; recognises that the disruption caused by COVID-19 means that demand for its services is high at a time when fundraising remains challenging; welcomes the opportunities that the charity provides to host virtual coffee mornings; recognises that, every year, it offers emotional, practical and financial support to thousands of people in Scotland affected by cancer; notes that, despite the best efforts of hardworking NHS staff, the pandemic has caused a significant backlog in cancer treatment and care; believes that the services Macmillan provides to 250,000 people in Scotland living with cancer are more vital now than ever, and thanks everyone who is taking part in this year’s Coffee Morning.
