WestJet to Relaunch Flights to Canada from Glasgow Airport

  • Submitted by: Neil Bibby, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 02 September 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01011

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement from WestJet that it plans to resume services between Glasgow and Halifax, Nova Scotia, as well as introducing a new service between Glasgow and Toronto; understands that these will be the first confirmed direct flights to North America from Glasgow Airport since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic; believes that the introduction of the new Glasgow to Toronto route will enhance connectivity between Glasgow and Canada, and wider North America, and will be a major boost for Glasgow Airport and the surrounding area; recognises what it sees as the importance of restarting international travel to Scotland’s economic recovery, and understands that WestJet will utilise the latest generation of aircraft to ensure that carbon emissions are minimised.
