When Will Matching Come?

  • Submitted by: John Mason, Glasgow Shettleston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 16 June 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00415

That the Parliament notes the delays to the UK Aid Match Scheme; recognises that the scheme was a commitment made by the UK Government to match selected appeals pound-for-pound; notes that many people raised and donated money to a number of causes during the COVID-19 pandemic, to support appeals with the understanding that their donations would be doubled; considers that delaying the funds will fail those who urgently need them, and risks undermining the trust of members of the public who donated so generously; recognises the valuable work of Edinburgh based, EMMS International, and its Every Girl Matters appeal, for funding palliative care in rural Nepal; acknowledges that the organisation states that without the funding patients will die, and hopes that the UK Government will reduce payment delays, in order to save lives in countries less fortunate than Scotland.
